The Countdown for the Baltimore Half Marathon

It’s time for another half marathon to go into the books for the 50 races in 50 states challenge. I can honestly say that I didn’t train anywhere near as much as I should have, and I already know it’s going to come back and bite me in the butt.

My goal is to stay positive throughout the whole race, and know that Jrod will be waiting for me at the end. He is running the full marathon and it starts almost 2 hours before the half, so he will be finished, after race goodies gotten, and probably will have taken a shower by the time I cross the finish line.

At the end of this race, I have decided to do something a little different. I am going to film a message to myself to get me in the mind-set for sticking with my seven week training plan for the Tucson half which is exactly seven week later. I always say after a race, I HAVE to train better for the next one, then life happens, I get overwhelmed and it all goes out the window.

Not this time, I already have the training plan written in my daily planner, have two workout friends to be my daily check in friends, and the video. I might even make weekly update videos just so more people can have my back and make me do this. My overall goal is not to be super fast in seven weeks, but to at least cut off 5 mins from my time. I have had the same time EVERY race I have ever done, truthfully I would be happy with a 2 minute cut. I also want to lose 20 lbs by the Miami race which is at the end of January. When I do that I will be back down to my healthily weight, though I will 100% take losing fat and getting muscle but being the same weight I am now if that happens too.

What are your goals for the next couple of weeks? Have you ever not truly trained for a race? How do you stay on track with your fitness goals?

When do you workout?

That is always a HUGE question that people ask others when they want to start their own personal health & fitness journey. I personally feel that there are many factors to when someone workouts, including their job, friends, home life, and for me when I feel my best.

I am a morning person, have been for my whole life and I truly enjoy working out in the morning. I enjoy it so much so that if I don’t workout by 11am it won’t be happening that day, it throws my whole schedule off. Piyo, Les Mills Combat, Running, Body Pump, Body Flow, you name it I will do it in the am without that much of a push.

Now, years ago I joined a gym with five wonderful ladies and we would workout at all hours of the day, but mostly at night. I 100% could go back to working out at the gym at night if I had a support group of gym buddies looking forward to working out together. That was the really nice thing about joining with five other ladies, there was almost ALWAYS someone free to workout with. Yes, I may have been the gym rat of them all, including going out drinking until 3pm and running on a treadmill at 8am because I promised to meet one of the girls. The trainer’s never let me live that one down, for the tequila was pouring out of  my body and you could smell it.

This brings me back to I truly feel it’s personal and YOU have to make it work for YOU! If you don’t then it’s not going to work for you, and you are setting yourself up to fail. When do you workout and why?

Feeling like a chicken with my head cut off…

I am bouncing off the wall this week! Between the Virginia Beach Rock n Roll Half Marathon this week, a great friend coming into town to run the race with me, tearing apart the house cleaning, and really starting to study for my Personal Trainer class.

First off, I am on a new book in my Ace Fitness Personal Training and just DEFINITIONS is 15 pages!! 15 PAGES! I am completely feeling overwhelmed right now, but I am going to break it up and learn it! It’s all muscles, and body systems but I feel working in the hospital as helped me a little bit more then if I was starting from scratch.

Second, I am scared to death about the half marathon this weekend. It’s my first race since hurting myself in May, and I am just worried that I will hurt myself while out on the course. I am lucky that my chiropractor is going to be at the event and he is going to be taping up both my knees & my compression pants will help. There is just a little voice in the back of my head is still talking *you are going to get hurt*

Third, while my friend is in town I have to work, it’s only four hours, but still not cool. If it was an important job, where I was a leader and people looked to me I would be okay with working. Currently I feel like my job is fluff, and it doesn’t matter if I am there or not. Do I feel like the patients care if I am there or not, yes some of them do, do other… I feel sometimes not at all.

My light in this mess of a week is Chalene Johnson! Right now I am listening to her live on the beachbody youtube channel. She has two new podcast which are both so informational & inspirational~

Thank you for my crazy thoughts! Now off to study!

Off the face of the earth

It’s feels like always between May-July of every year I seem to drop off the face of the Earth when it comes to my blog. I first want to thank everyone who is still coming and checking in, and say that I am sorry.

There is no major reason this year of why I have dropped off, I have to doing TONS and have a huge amount of race recaps, restaurant reviews, and more to up date. It’s just finding the time to sit down and do it, when I would rather be outside or spending time with my love. I am sorry that I have left you all just hanging and will be back with a purpose starting today!

A fast recap of the past couple of months:

-Studying to be a personal trainer through ACE Fitness, hoping to also add group class teacher to that too by the end of October.

- Fulling injuried myself in May 2 weeks before the Delaware half marathon. Jrod still ran it, but I just took a lot of pictures. New goal is to figure out another race for Delaware next year.

-Randomly signed up for the Virginia Beach Rock n Roll Half Marathon later this month. My friend Suzie is coming up from Florida and we are going to run it together. Hoping my body hold up, but rehab is coming along great.

-Reading self help business books like they are going out of style. Can’t wait to share my reviews, and tips about what I personally found to be truly helpful.

-Tried out a new company (Modere), it’s not anything like I thought it was going to be and I am working on sending everything back later this week. Getting involved with this company really made me find my focus about how I want my journey to look like, and it’s more towards Health & Wellness products that are truly holistic.

-Stepping up my training all around and got Beachbody’s newest workout PiYo and I LOVE IT! The first month I lost 11 inches!

-Working on lots of projects around the house, can’t wait to share them with you all!

-Really focusing on doTERRA and healing my body, along with helping my friends heal theirs.

That is just a fast recap, looking forward to posting more this week! What have you all been up to this summer?

Today’s giveaway comes from my friend Tiffany who does Thrive,  it’s a bag of Strawberries!

Tiffany was wonderful to give me a recipe that they could be used in, just to give you an idea.

French Vanilla Crepes With White Chocolate Strawberry Mousse

Ingredients
1 1⁄2 c thrive instant milk, prepared
3 T thrive whole egg powder, reconstituted
2 T vanilla extract
1 1⁄2 c thrive white flour
5 T thrive white sugar, divided
1⁄2 t thrive iodized salt
5 T melted butter
1 1⁄2 c thrive freeze dried strawberries, plus rehydrating liquid (water, juice, etc.)
1 3⁄4 c heavy whipping cream
6 oz white chocolate, chopped

Instructions
*In a large bowl, mix together the milk, eggs, and vanilla. Stir in the flour, 2 T sugar, salt, and melted butter until well-blended.
*Heat a sauté or crepe pan over medium heat until hot. Coat with vegetable oil or cooking spray.
*Pour about 1/4 c of batter into the pan and tip to spread the batter to the edges. When bubbles form on the top and the edges are dry, flip over, and cook until lightly-browned on the other side and edges are golden. Repeat with remaining batter.
*To make mousse, reconstitute freeze dried strawberries for 5-7 minutes in enough hot liquid to cover. Strain mixture into a small bowl. Sweeten by adding remaining sugar, then stir until sugar dissolves. Process in a blender or food processor until sauce runs smooth. Makes 1 c of sauce.
*In a heavy saucepan on low heat, warm 1/4 c heavy cream with white chocolate, stirring constantly until chocolate melts. Let mixture cool until it is lukewarm. Stir in 2 T of strawberry sauce, then transfer to a large bowl.
*In a medium bowl, whip remaining cream into soft peaks. Fold into melted chocolate mixture, one-third at a time, until no streaks remain.
*Layer mousse into crepes, and serve with the sauce.

She also uses them in her Champagne! How smart!
